The Journey
The pilgrimage typically starts from Pokhara or Jomsom. The route takes you through the world's deepest gorge, with breathtaking mountain scenery.
At the Temple
Muktinath is unique as it is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple complex features:
- 108 water spouts pouring holy water
- Eternal flame (Jwala Mai) representing fire and water together
- Natural gas flames that burn continuously
Spiritual Significance
For Hindus, Muktinath is one of the 108 Divya Desams. For Buddhists, it is one of the 24 tantric places. Taking a bath in the 108 spouts is believed to cleanse all sins.
